Congratulations on the birth of your new baby! Even though you have been blessed with a tiny baby, by now you probably realize that you have a giant task ahead of you. No one has greater potential to impact a child’s development than their parents. Dedicating your child is so much more than five minutes on the stage one Sunday – it is a journey that lasts a lifetime. Your participation in baby dedication is your commitment to God and to the congregation that you are serious about the task of raising your child in a Christ-centered home. As a church, our goal is to come alongside of you and help equip you as we strive to build spiritually healthy homes together.

Here are some frequently asked questions:

1. What is the age limit to dedicate children?

The age limit to dedicate is 5 years old or before the child enters first grade.

2. What about baptism?

Baby dedication at Canton Baptist Temple does not involve infant baptism. We believe that baptism is meant to take place after an individual makes a personal decision to receive Christ. You will not find any instances in Scripture of an infant being baptized.

3. Do I have to be a member of CBT to participate?

Yes, we feel that this is an important first step for you as parents to understand what we believe and for us to truly be able to partner with you in the spiritual development of your child. If you are not a member, one of our pastors would love to talk with you about church membership.

4. Are there any other guidelines?

Married Parents: Baby Dedication is open to married parents who are members and who can truthfully say, “We will commit ourselves to raising this child to know the Lord by loving, training, and setting a Christ-like example.”

Unmarried Parents: Unmarried parents who are living together are asked to separate or wait until they are married to dedicate their child. We believe that individuals in these situations are not following Scriptural instruction with regard to raising a child in a Christian home. One of our pastors is always available if you would like further guidance in this area.

Single Parents: Single parents are welcome to participate in baby dedication provided they meet the above guidelines.
