• This is Passion Week or Holy week.
  • The praise and worship the followers give Jesus on his entry into Jerusalem.

Luke 9:51- And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

  • This trip into Jerusalem was not about ruling and reigning like everyone thought, it was about redeeming.

Matthew 21:9- And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

  • The word hosanna means “save now.”
  • The people wanted to be saved from Rome. Jesus came to save people spiritually, not physically.

Mark 11:9-10-And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: 10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

Luke 19:37-40-And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; 38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. 40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

John 12:12-13- On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.

  • John’s account is the only one that mentions palm branches. Palm branches symbolized victory, joy and celebration.

Luke 19:37- And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

This morning we are going to look at three thoughts from Luke 19:37

First, even as followers of Christ, we don’t always fully understand His plan for our lives. VS 37

Luke 19:37- And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

  • The multitude was the disciples. They were still confused about his plan.
  • The disciples were close to Jesus. They had spent 3 years with Jesus, but they were still unsure of what Jesus was going to accomplish.
  • The disciples thought Jesus was coming to overthrow the Roman Empire, but instead, he was coming to be a sacrificial lamb for all.
  • God’s plan doesn’t always make sense to us. We still have to trust him believe he has a plan for everything.
  • God’s plan is always better than our plans.

Secondly, as followers of Christ, we ought to give praise to God. VS 37

Luke 19:37- And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

  • According to Psalms 148, everything gives praise to God. All living creatures give praise to their creator.
  • Praise should be all over our tongues as we praise the Lord.
  • We have so much to praise God for.
  • Don’t let the stones out praise you!

Lastly, as followers of Christ, we ought to praise Him for what we have seen Him do in our lives. VS. 37

Luke 19:37- And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

  • Think about what God has done in your life. We have a lot to praise the Lord about.

Psalms 147:1- Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

  • When was the last time you gave God the praise He deserves?

Psalms 145:3- Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

  • GIVE HIM PRAISE!

Do you know Christ as your Savior?  Do you know for sure you are going to heaven when you die?  You can know for sure you are going to heaven and that your sins are forgiven!
