• 13 “But this one thing I do”- as Christians the one thing we should be striving for is Christlikeness.
  • Matt 4:19, Matt 8:22, Matt 9:9, Matt 16:24, Matt 19:21- Striving to be Christlike.
  • When we are Christlike we are bringing him honor and glory. We can’t ignore the Bible and become more like Christ.

Philippians 3:17-21: Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Three important thoughts from this passage about being Christlike.

First- The importance of having Christ like examples in our lives. (vs 17)

VS 17- Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

  • If we are going to be Christlike we need to have Christlike people in our lives.
  • People will always disappoint us. Don’t follow people, follow God.
  • Who is that person in your life today that is your example?
  • We must have Christlike people in our lives. Even during a pandemic we need it.

Secondly- The importance of rejecting those who would lead us away from the simplicity of the Gospel. (vs. 18)

VS 18- For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

  • Why were they enemies of God?
    • They were false teachers. They taught a works based salvation. Discern right from wrong teaching.
  • Salvation is by one way; the grace of God!

Lastly- The importance of living with the expectation that Christ could come today. (vs. 20-21)

VS 20-21- For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

  • How much would change if you knew Jesus was coming back today?

Acts 1:11-Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

  • We are living in the last days. Are you ready? He is coming again!

John 14:3- And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

1 Cor. 15:53- For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1 John 3:2b- but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

  • We will have the body as Christ.
    • We will be recognizable.
    • We won’t have limitations.
    • Vile body to glorious body. VS. 21
  • We need to be ready every day for the return of Jesus Christ.
  • Be christlike, be faithful and be committed.

Do you know Christ as your Savior?  Do you know for sure you are going to heaven when you die?  You can know for sure you are going to heaven and that your sins are forgiven!
